The Allison Gala, an annual event Brandt started in memory of a dear family friend, Allison Ryan, who passed at the age of 28 after being diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer 20 months prior. In two years Brandt raised $40,000 for the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation of direct funds and over $200,000 of in-kind donations in service of the gala.

This year's event will be held
Friday, September 6, 2019, 7:00 - 10:00 pm
at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, DC.

Soon, on September 6, the third annual Allison Gala will be held to raise money and awareness for Triple Negative Breast Cancer research. As the mother of Allison Virginia Ryan, for whom the Gala is named, I am honored that her memory is associated with this extremely important fund raiser. Fifteen to twenty percent of all breast cancers are triple negative; the younger the patient, the greater the possibility of invasive metastatic cancer or death. Invasive breast cancer occurring in women before the age of 35 years has a more aggressive biological behavior and is associated with a worse prognosis than in older women. Triple negative breast cancer before the age of thirty is the most deadly of breast cancers. One of the most important reasons that triple-negative breast cancer is more deadly in younger women is that treatment options are less available than the traditionally targeted therapies. This is why it is so important that we continue the fight to help fund better research to help find the therapies that will stop triple negative breast cancer from its invasive attack in other parts of the body. It is a complicated, costly research, but would you want this research to be the one bright light that might save your daughter’s life…your sister’s life...your niece’s life? Every adolescent girl and every young woman should be able to look forward to a long, productive life. Triple negative breast cancer is a barrier to such an existence.

We will never know the cause of our daughter’s triple negative breast cancer. What our hearts say to us is that we must help in every way possible so that someone else does not have to bear this terrible loss. Contributions to research constitute hope. That is what our daughter had…courage, hope, grace and love. All of the proceeds from the September 6 Allison Gala will be invested in research for triple negative breast cancer. Thank you for helping to support this Gala; thank you for caring about young adolescent girls and young women who are fighting this cruel disease.
